The Canadian Ice Fishing Championship was born out of the World Ice Fishing Championship which was held in Georgina Lake Simcoe in the early nineties.
Today we still follow the same Olympic style format as the WIFC with a few changes to make it more user friendly for the average fisherperson.

In the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship, two person teams fish for six hours per day 8am to 2pm over two days. Competitors will be awarded points for catching targeted species of fish and additional points for catching larger fish. See rules. Cost per team is $275. ($285. at event) plus $20 for the Big Fish Pool (optional)

The 1st Place winners are the team who accumulates the most points over the two days. 2nd place goes to the second highest scorer and so on down to tenth for cash rewards totaling in $25,000.
11th place to 20th place receive prizes that total between $8,000 - $10,000.

This year the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship will be run out of the Lionshead Resort which is the official host-destination for the 2010 Canadian Ice Fishing Championship .
